100, A+ (25/25): Clarity + Concision + Courage + Choice = A triumph of creativity and critical analysis. Evocative, organized and purposeful language (sentence structure, style, word choice); seeks and provides insight and a sense of discovery in every moment and may actually transcend the expectations of the assignment
96, A (24/25): An powerful piece of writing that meets all the criteria of the assignment (Clarity + Concision + Courage + Choice = Compelling Writing). Correct usage of sophisticated language, style and structure to delve into complex ideas…OR a consistently brilliant and creative piece in which the writer’s control (grammar, punctuation, word choice, etc.) lags a small step behind his/her ideas
92, A- (23/25): A consistently strong piece of writing that, although it may have minor errors, manages to provide real insight into texts and topics at hand and a strong sense of engagement; OR a very well-written and organized piece of writing that offers a few major insights
88, B+ (22/25): A piece of writing that, although it suffers from structural flaws or minor lapses in control, manages to contain some inspired and effective writing OR a piece of writing that, while limited in vision, is nevertheless well-structured and well-written
84, B (21/25): An effort that suggests the writer grasps the big ideas and possesses the skills the assignment hopes to assess, but does not dig deeply into ideas and analysis.
80, B- (20/25): An effort that shows a basic grasp of the big ideas but suffers from too many lapses in analysis or control.
76, C+ (19/25): An effort that misses many of the big ideas and/or lacks many of the skills the assignment hopes to assess.
72, C, 18/25: A piece of writing that demonstrates little insight into the topic and suffers from a large number of grammatical and/or logical flaws
64, F, 16/25: An unacceptable submission that fails to demonstrate a writer working with integrity.
